Malocclusion or crooked uneven teeth cause malalignment and lead one to have severe oral health problems. These problems can be of the following types
When the front teeth do not meet, it leads one to have an unattractive smile. It also causes the tongue to sit in this space and cause problems with speech. Problems like unclear speech, lisp, spitting of saliva during speech, and in biting are commonly seen in Open Bite cases.
When upper teeth overlap the lower teeth by more than 2 mm it is a symptom of Deep Bite.
It is a common malocclusion where the lower teeth are hardly seen and are completely hidden behind the upper front teeth.
Though deep bite cases do not look miserable, they can lead to problems during the later stages of life. The upper and lower teeth grind together like a pair of scissors and cause irreversible damage to the lower teeth. If left untreated, it can cause the following problems:
Damage to Lower Teeth
Damage to Lower Gum
Loosening of Teeth
Impaired Growth of Lower Jaw in Children (Due to Pressure)
It is ideal to go for the treatment of Deep Bite at the earliest so that you can keep the above problems at bay.
Class II Occlusion: In Class II Occlusion, the chin & lower jaw are small & held back (Retruded). Treatment for class II Occlusion can help in development of the lower jaw. By getting treatment at the right time, the child can have a beautiful face and profile. The right age to undergo treatment for Class II Occlusion is when the child is growing and has a few milky teeth.
In Class III Occlusion, the face looks concave in side profile, and lower jaw appears bigger than the upper jaw. The chin appears prominent. Patients having Class III Occlusion can have many problems with speech and chewing. Also, while smiling, the teeth hardly ever show.
Cleft lip and Cleft Palate are birth defects that occur when a baby's lip or mouth do not form properly.
When there is a lack of space in your mouth for teeth to fit properly, the teeth can bunch up, overlap, and twist; pushing them in the front or back. This is known as crowding. If left untreated by the age of 11, the crowding of teeth can get worse.
Teeth spacing is a condition in which the front teeth have gaps between them.
