‘Straightening of teeth should not be the only focus when dentists’ see crowded, malaligned teeth.’ This forms the basis of Dr.Alka Banker’s philosophy. It is important to remember that every visit to an orthodontist goes beyond just straightening of teeth. It involves providing holistic treatment which changes the way an individual chews, breathes, smiles and looks!
Dr. Banker’s philosophy involves opening up the palate with a customized appliance and applying a unique methodology for airway opening. This innovative treatment area of orthodontics is called ‘Face Development Orthodontics’. It is a holistic treatment procedure, which not only creates a beautiful smile with perfectly aligned teeth, but also solves the problem of adverse growth and development of the face and jaws. This approach allows for ideal and stable results as well as an aesthetically pleasing face and profile.
In conventional orthodontics, problems like deep bites, protrusions, and cross bites are very difficult to correct and often relapse in a long run because the underlying factors that caused them are not typically addressed. Patients with underdeveloped jaws usually experience dental crowding and don’t have enough room for all their teeth. Sometimes, removal of the four permanent premolars is recommended followed by retractive orthodontics which makes the jaw even smaller. This leads to compromised facial aesthetics (old looking faces), TMJ problems (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (breathing & snoring problems), in addition to an unattractive smile.
Our innovative and cutting-edge technology combines measuring x-rays for facial growth analysis and treatment without removing any teeth; to achieve straight teeth and a beautiful broad smile, an ideal facial proportion and profile as well as healthy joints and airway.
Treatment, following the re-establishment of nasal breathing, consists of an orthopedic growth phase to achieve aesthetic facial dimensions and profile as well as an orthodontic phase to straighten teeth and preserve newly created space without retraction orthodontics. The appliances used help to develop faces and jaws to their full genetic potential. This was the basis of Dr.Alka Banker’s doctoral thesis.
We advice our patients to follow the BIG 3 Steps:
1. Breathe through the mouth.
2. Lips closed.
3. Tongue should touch the palate.
We can give you beautiful forward faces and profiles, big smiles and super health through good breathing if you follow our instructions carefully. We want to see you while you are still growing and there are a few milk teeth still left in your mouth.
WE CAN CHANGE HOW YOU LOOK & SMILE FOR LIFE!!
ORTHODONTICS FOR A GOOD LIFE!
Environment plays a major role in forming abnormally shaped jaws, especially the upper jaw and teeth. Ailments like frequent cold allergies, blocked nose, allergies, inflamed adenoids as well as thumb-sucking habits, can change the shape and size of jaws and palate. – This was the premise of Dr. Alka Banker’s Ph.D theseis. When you have jaws that are smaller than normal, problems like crowding of teeth, drooling of saliva, poor concentration, keeping the mouth open, disturbed sleep etc are seen. This impacts the quality of life. Getting right treatment at the right age can correct and prevent and get rid of these problems.
Causes of narrow palate are many. These include:
Chronic
Cold & Allergies
Thumb Sucking
Habits Formed
During Childhood
Mouth Breathing
Due to Inadequate Airway
Constricted Palates Can Cause Problems Like:
Upper jaw is the floor of one’s nose. When the bone of upper jaw is opened, it opens up the airway, making it easier for the patient to breathe. Similarly, when the lower jaw is held back, and the tongue is pushed back, the airway gets smaller. If the child can be treated during his/her growing period – i.e. between the age 10 to 13 years, this undesirable effect on the jaws can be reversed using orthodontic appliances for expansion and mandibular (lower jaw) protrusion. By positioning the jaws correctly, it is possible to maintain the airway patency and alter the profile and lip line, resulting into a symmetrical face profile. One can also keep sleep problems (OSA) at bay if the lower jaw is held and maintained in the right position.
Dr. Alka Banker often says “My treatments involve motivating the patients to get better, cooperate with their role during the treatment, and rendering them with confidence so that they can achieve their goals at work, school, in sports, and life in general.”
